  • Brian is a regenerative agriculture consultant for Understanding Ag and a student of soil. His roots are planted in Northeast Iowa where he co-owned and operated a family dairy farm. Brian was a 2018 Nuffield Farming Scholar and studied the intersection of soil health, water quality, and nutrient management, with a focus on the fundamental importance of soil health and related global efforts to regenerate agricultural soils. He is now an operating partner at Wild Type Ranch in Southwest Wisconsin, a direct-to-consumer pastured protein business. He applies his passion for working with nature and his background as a farmer and agricultural engineer to help heal broken nutrient, water, and energy cycles to make regenerative food production a reality and make farming fun again

  • Mark is responsible for all investment and management activity for the Nuveen Natural Capital horticulture portfolio. Mark has been involved in agriculture investment and management professionally since 2005. Prior to joining Nuveen Natural Capital in 2015, he served as an Associate Director at MetLife Agricultural Investments and later held an executive role with one of California’s largest permanent crop growers. Mark graduated, summa cum laude, with department honors in Economics from the University of California, San Diego.

  •  Ruth McCabe leads the Conservation Team at Heartland Co-op. She is a passionate advocate for sustainable farming practices in the Midwest and has devoted her career to working with farmers who want to adopt conservation into their management plans. Ruth is a Certified Professional Agronomist, an Iowa CCA, and has her M.S. in Crop Production and Physiology from Iowa State University. Prior to her current role, Ruth worked as a technical agronomist, organic agronomist and research agronomist around the Midwest for over a decade. She was also a 2022 Nuffield International Farming Scholar studying conservation farming adoption in major grain producing countries around the world. Her favorite topic to talk about is pheasant hunting and she specializes in cover crops, prairie management, and edge-of-field structures.
