Savannah Strickland Gentry NORTH CAROLINA

The Effects of Media Democratization and Social Media on Family Farms

Savannah Strickland Gentry works on her family farm in Mount Olive, North Carolina, where she serves as the Business Development and Marketing Specialist, supporting farm operations alongside her father. Strickland Farming Group oversees approximately 3,600 acres of corn, soybeans, pickling cucumbers, sweet corn, pumpkins, flue-cured tobacco, and sweet potatoes. The operation also includes a turkey grow-out farm in partnership with Butterball and a swine finishing facility with Prestage Farms.

Savannah earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business Management from North Carolina State University, complemented by minors in Economics and Spanish. Following graduation, she gained valuable experience working for three years with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) before returning to the family farm in 2024. In 2022, Savannah launched the social media platform, “The NC Farmer’s Daughter,” sharing her story as an 8th generation farmer; she also uses this platform to educate the public about where food comes from. As the eighth generation on the family farm, Savannah hopes to carry on the family legacy by feeding and clothing the world.
