Mental health and self-harm prevention in agriculture

Devin Benish is a digital media manager for the Iowa Soybean Association. This role allows him to combine both his agricultural and business background to serve soybean farmers. He grew up on a row crop operation with a corn and soybean rotation in eastern Iowa. Throughout his time in college, he studied abroad in both Spain and Brazil focusing on business and environmental issues. From those two experiences, he knows how valuable travel can be for education.

During his travels as a Nuffield Scholar, Devin is focusing on mental health and suicide prevention within agriculture. His hope is to find a way to normalize the conversation surrounding mental health for those in ag so that available resources and tools related to mental health get more use. In his free time, Devin runs, bikes, kayaks and plays an unhealthy amount of board games.
